Ozone Hole

Starting in the 1970s–80s, industrial chlorofluorocarbons (CFCs), once common in refrigerants and aerosols, built up in the stratosphere and triggered a dramatic seasonal depletion of ozone over Antarctica: the now-famous “ozone hole”.
